A wide energy range is required as it is likely that additional isotopes will be present in trace quantities. The LSC will be used as a quantitative scientific instrument with good background suppression and high sensitivity being key requirements. The UKAEA is not look-ing for a custom-designed system, but a high quality off the shelf instrument.
