Description : The NATO Codification System (NCS) is an internationally recognised system designed for the uniform naming, description, and classification of military equipment and components. This process assigns each Item of Supply with a unique NATO Stock Number (NSN) which is then stored electronically within the UK Codification Support Information System (CSIS) database. These records are then integrated into the NATO Master Catalogue of References for Logistics (NMCRL) which stores all NSNs. The NCS system is used by 64 nations and allows for a standardised supply language which significantly enhances logistics interoperability among the member nations. The United Kingdom National Codification Bureau (UKNCB) is the Sole Authority for Codification matters in the UK and is responsible for implementation and management of the UK's participation in the overall NATO codification system.
