About the Office for National Statistics (ONS) ONS is the UK's largest independent producer of official statistics and is the National Statistical Institute for the UK. Formally, it is the executive office of the UK Statistics Authority, a non-Ministerial Department established by the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007. It is responsible for collecting and publishing statistics related to the economy, population, and society at national, regional and local levels. ONS plays a leading role in national and international good practice in the production of official statistics. Introduction The Office for National Statistics (ONS) wishes to make estimates of household expenditure on alcoholic beverages as a component of National Accounts and is published separately in Consumer Trends. To assist in these estimates, it wishes to establish fully representative prices of all categories of alcoholic beverages purchased for personal consumption within the United Kingdom. Only purchases made by individuals, from legitimate outlets are to be recorded in the estimates. The ONS will combine this price data with volume data received from HM Customs and Excise to derive final estimates of household expenditure on alcoholic beverages in the UK. The ONS is looking for a Supplier who will supply price and volume data to the ONS to fulfil the price requirement of these estimates.
