Thurrock Council is seeking to engage with providers ahead of a planned procurement exercise for the delivery of a Post 18 Autism Support Service for young people aged 18 to 25 years old with a diagnosis of autism and complex needs. We invite interested providers to participate in this soft market testing to help shape a service model that is sustainable, innovative, and delivers high-quality outcomes for young adults with complex needs. Thurrock Council currently provides a specialist support service for up to 10 young adults aged 18-25 with autism and complex needs. Many of these young people are non-verbal or have limited communication and need intensive support to thrive. This service helps young people stay close to home and family, avoiding the need for expensive out-of-area residential placements. It focuses on giving them the practical, emotional, and social skills they need to live more independently-whether that's in supported housing, eventually on their own or still at home but with less reliance on parental support. The current service approach uses Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), which many young people in Thurrock are already familiar with through their school experience at Treetops Special School.
