Description:
Arts Council granted funded projected consisting of conservation work on listed pump house chimney, entrance porch and boundary wall which are part of Papplewick Pumping Station which is a scheduled monument and grade II listed Park and Garden. Museum will remain operational during works.

Abstract: The boundary wall is approximately 70m in length, 22.5 inches thick and its height varies but is generally approximately 1.6m high. The wall is of brick construction and sits on a rough finished masonry plinth, It has inset panels with a red brick moulded course beneath a sandstone coping. The boiler chimney is square in plan and largely built in red brick. It has a decorative central and corner pilasters. The internal corners of which have moulded bricks, probably hand gauged. It is approximately 120ft in height from ground level and has a plan area of 4.1m x 4.1m at the base reducing to 3.66m x 3.66m at the main pilastered shaft.The top of the chimney is formed of blue engineering bricks, and topped with a concrete cap.
