- MusicAbility Foundation was gifted a Grade 2 listed building in the centre of Penzance to create a music centre for health and well-being. On being gifted the building in June 2021 we created a dedicated music therapy room - the only fully equipped music therapy space west of Bristol. We are now working towards renovating and extending the rest of the building to become a unique socially focused music centre, offering expanded music therapy services and spaces for music teaching, rehearsal and events.
The purchase of this system is grant funded and must therefore comply with the conditions of said Heritage At Risk funding. We will assess tenders received on a Most Economically Advantageous Tender plus other suitability factors, particularly availability during the construction period as the timescales are limited. We plan to bring the building into increased and celebrated public use as a music centre for health, education, participation and performance. The project's overall aims are to regenerate this once grand public building and return it to full use for the benefit the people of Penzance and West Cornwall. MusicAbility Foundation have obtained a Town Deal Enterprise Grant to complete Phase One of the project, to create a second music therapy room downstairs along with level access and accessible toilets on the ground floor.
