  • Description:
  • Heat Decarbonisation Plans And Building Energy Audits
In 2010/11, the natural gas used in Authority buildings accounted for 25% of the Authority-s carbon footprint. Although gas consumption has decreased, it now accounts for 44% of the Authority-s carbon footprint (2021). This is due to a focus on electricity reduction projects and also the work to decarbonise the national grid. The Authority recognises that heat derived from fossil fuels, in the case of North Tyneside, gas, is a significant contributor to both local and national carbon footprint and is a significant hurdle to overcome on the journey to net zero. The Authority is clear that the decarbonisation of heat is a major priority, as stated in its Climate Emergency Action Plan, and requires technical assistance to develop feasibility studies and investment grade proposals for its most heat intensive buildings. The Authority intends to use the heat decarbonisation plan and funded energy audits and feasibility studies to inform future grant funding bids such as the Public Sector Decarbonisation Fund grant.
