It is the Regional Strategic Housing Authority, and as the Home Energy Conservation Authority (HECA), the NIHE is also responsible for promoting energy efficiency savings for all 780,000 households in Northern Ireland. It is also a landlord for approximately 86,000 social rented homes where very big investments in insulation, energy, and control systems are needed to help meet the UK nett zero carbon by 2050 target. Under this SBRI competition, the NIHE wishes to encourage and support research and development to result in new and innovative product or service offers and combinations that improve energy and carbon efficiency, energy affordability, and which may guide energy investments in homes throughout Northern Ireland, while maintaining high levels of comfort and convenience for households.
