- Tenders are invited for This project involves the construction of a new road layout on McKinstry Road at its junction with the Derriaghy Road and The Cutts. The project involves the construction of a new road layout to an aligned non-hooking arrangement and providing signal controlled, designated right turns for vehicles wishing to turn into the two side roads. In addition, a left turn slip road is to be provided for northbound traffic on McKinstry Road turning into Derriaghy Road. The footways within scheme extents are also being reconfigured to improve active travel connectivity through the project with shared cycleway/footways provided along McKinstry Road, toucan crossings at the signalised junction with Advanced Stop Lines and right turn off slip pockets onto the islands to allow cyclists to make right turns onto Derriaghy Road and The Cutts from McKinstry Road. The traffic signals at the junction are to be fully upgraded to include MOVA detection, and pedestrian crossings upgraded to toucan crossings. The objectives for this project are: • To improve safety of the junction for all vehicles and non-motorised users; • To improve journey time reliability; • To provide improved facilities for cyclists and pedestrians; • To maintain access to all existing properties affected by the scheme.
