Abstract: Our new strategy commits us to developing great partnerships and encouraging learning which is the key mechanism for continuous improvement in a complex system. We therefore need a new approach to accountability which encourages honesty, learning and a ‘positive error culture- where it-s ok to talk about mistakes.Our new approach to accountability moves us away OBPM to a focus on creating great partnerships and encouraging learning.  We want to create a safe space where partners are encouraged and supported to give an honest account of their actions and to prioritise collection of insight which is useful to help them learn and improve (rather than to satisfy us as a funder).Providing partners satisfy the relevant Capability requirements, this new approach requires us to start from a position of trust.The relationship management team at Sport Wales is fully committed to this new approach to accountability. Things are at an embryonic stage and while there are promising signs of early progress, there are also multiple challenges; we don-t know exactly what is needed to create the shift in approach that we desire.
