The central car park has a single track in / out which can often become overfull and cause gridlock with drivers not being able to exit as more drivers enter into the park. This has impacted on the surrounding residents and Police have become involved due to illegal parking and community complaints. There are other car parks at the site and if the correct signage / barrier could be applied drivers could be redirected and the problem could be overcome. The purpose of this trial will be to ascertain if sensors placed in the car parking bays could accurately report back on the number of vehicles in the car park and to then prevent a control barrier opening until sufficient vehicles leave. This will prevent the access road becoming jammed and if linked to electronic boards could additionally redirect motorists to alternative parking locations. The problem is that if we control access to the park then we may have an unexpected and unwelcome consequence that being to block access to the residential properties via queuing cars.
