Abstract: The Phantom Heads suite within the School of Clinical Dentistry at the University of Sheffield is an essential and heavily used teaching facility. The facility is used by students across all clinical programmes at both Undergraduate and Post Graduate level and is an essential facility for simulated teaching. This facility is used for learning and teaching of all dental operative procedures that are standard in dental undergraduate and postgraduate educational curricula.The 'Phantom Head Patient Simulators' are in full operation constantly, every day of the year (excluding weekends and public holidays and a two-week period in August for servicing/maintenance) and are used for approximately 28 - 35 hours per week.They are used by multiple cohorts of students, across multiple programmes, and as such they must be very robust and easy to maintain.The existing 'Phantom Heads Patient Simulators' themselves are now 17 years old and in ne...
